Last week, Central Kansas Community Corrections Director Brooke Haulmark presented to the Barton County Commission her plans moving forward to address some deficiencies in the department as indicated in a report from the Kansas Department of Corrections. At Tuesday's meeting, the commission approved a part-time office assistant position at CKCC. County Administrator Matt Patzner presented the issue to the commission.

"So what we have is the addition of an office assistant position as a part-time employee under Central Kansas Community Corrections," he said. "This person will work with the community corrections director, office assistant, and other personnel in performing vital tasks for departmental operations."

Patzner said the county's schedule of authorized positions is now adopted outside the budget document to increase the transparency of county operations. He said the new position, which will include administrative duties like bookkeeping, will help CKCC perform other job-specific roles.

Haulmark's new goals at CKCC include completing an assessment for 90 percent of clients within 30 days of assignment to CKCC, developing a case plan for 90 percent of high-risk offenders within 45 days, and having service referrals for 90 percent of high-risk offenders within 60 days of assignment. She reported the agency was more than 100 assessments behind when she took over the position in January.
