Algie Key Scored 28 points, 22 of which came in the second half, and Barton outlasted Hesston 92-83 Friday on day one of the Hesston Thanksgiving Classic. Dwayne Brunson added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars who improved to 11-0 on the season. BCC will play Northern Oklahoma-Enid Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
Women’s Game – Hesston 55 Barton 51 OT
Barton went to final 6:48 of regulation without a field goal which allowed Hesston to tie the game and send the contest into overtime at 44-44. In the overtime, the Larks outscored the Lady Cougars 11-7 to pull off the shocking upset 55-51.
Hesston had lost 7 straight games entering Friday’s contest, a losing streak that included a loss to the Kansas Wesleyan JV. Barton had won 6 straight which included wins over Coffeyville, Labette, Neosho and Marshalltown, Iowa. But the Lady Cougars shot just 26 percent from the field and went over 10 minutes without a field goal at the end of the game and the first portion over overtime.
BCC played without leading scorer Dionne Harris who was serving a one game conference suspension for getting two technical fouls in Barton’s game the previous Saturday. In addition, starting point guard Erin Copeland left the game early in second half with an ankle injury and her backup Jennifer Allende left the game late with a knee injury. Harris will return Saturday afternoon for the Cougars 2:00 p.m. game against Brown Mackie. Allende and Copeland are questionable.
