Every student counts. Special education teachers know that
better than anyone else. For her efforts as a special education teacher at
Little Panther Preschool in Great Bend, Hilary Emerson was recently named the
February winner in Eagle Media’s School Hero Contest, presented by OPI &amp;
Golden Belt Printing. Emerson was presented a giant $500 check for her efforts.

&nbsp;Emerson’s nominator
said, “Hilary is an amazing teacher to my autistic daughter. She has always
treated her the same as the other children, and has helped her progress so
much.”

The School Hero Contest is for any school employee who goes
above and beyond in his or her job. Administrators, teachers, paras, coaches,
maintenance staff, cafeteria workers, and more are all eligible. A new School
Hero will be selected on the fourth Tuesday of each month, and that hero will
be recognized with $500 in prize money.

Daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 8 and the American Red Cross encourages everyone to test their smoke alarms as they&nbsp;turn their clocks forward to make sure the devices are working.

“Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half as you only have about two minutes to safely get out,” said Shannon Wedge, executive director of the South Central and Southeast Kansas chapter. “Every second counts when there’s a home fire and the sooner an alarm alerts you to a fire, the sooner you can get to a safer place. When daylight saving time ends this weekend, test your smoke alarms to help prevent a tragedy in your home.”

Local Red Cross volunteers often respond to help Kansans affected by home fires, which account for most of the about 65,000 disasters that the Red Cross responds to annually across the country. These volunteers are on the scene with emergency managers and first responders to aid their neighbors after a tragedy.

American Red Cross: Check smoke detectors when changing clocks this weekend

Cheyenne Bottoms, located on the Central Flyway, a bird migration route that connects Canada to South America, is an ideal place to witness the spring migration of many bird species. Seventy percent of all the different shorebird species in North America have been recorded at Cheyenne Bottoms, and late March through early May is prime time to view the birds using the local wetlands for rest and fuel.

This spring, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center is offering 2-hour Birdwatching van tours through the Cheyenne Bottoms wetlands.&nbsp;Bird communities can change quickly from day to day during the spring, but the migration usually peaks around the last two weeks of April through the first two weeks of May.&nbsp;Birdwatchers will get the chance to see a variety of wetland birds during the tours, including ducks, such as Blue-winged Teal, Cinnamon Teal, and Gadwall; shorebirds, such as Long-billed dowitchers, Least sandpipers, Willets, Black-necked stilts, and American avocets; wading birds, such as Great blue herons, Black-crowned night herons, and Snowy Egrets; and other wetland specialist birds, such as American white pelicans, Double-crested cormorants, and Pied-billed grebes.

Kansas Wetlands Education Center to host spring Bird Migration Tours

The next generation of entrepreneurs took center stage on March 4 at the Youth Entrepreneur Challenge (YEC) held at the Great Bend Event Center, where five student-run businesses presented their ideas to a panel of judges and members of the community.

The Youth Entrepreneur Challenge is a statewide competition that encourages high school students to develop real-world business concepts, build business plans, and pitch their ideas to industry professionals. Participants gain valuable experience in entrepreneurship, communication, and problem-solving while competing for the opportunity to advance to the state competition.

This year’s local competition featured five impressive student ventures, each demonstrating creativity, ambition, and strong business potential.

Taking home First Place and the Grand Prize was Zoey Bogner with her business Talk that Talk. Zoey’s venture offers professional voice-over services for a variety of media, including radio and television commercials, audiobooks, video games, and other audio productions. With a clear niche and growing demand for voice talent across multiple industries, her business stood out to judges for its creativity and scalability. Zoey will now advance to represent the community at the state Youth Entrepreneur Challenge competition.

Second Place was awarded to Bennett Jacobs and Callie Umphres for their business Ice on Wheels, a mobile snow cone stand designed to serve customers at events, sporting tournaments, and community gatherings. Their business plan also includes a seasonal expansion that would offer hot chocolate and apple cider during colder months. In addition to placing second, Ice on Wheels also earned the People’s Choice Award, voted on by event attendees.

Third Place went to Amelia’s Custom Art Keychains, a business that turns her artistic talent into personalized keepsakes. Amelia hand-draws custom artwork that is turned into unique keychains, showcasing her creativity and attention to detail.

· PK Podcast, a podcast created for preacher’s kids that shares stories and provides insight into the unique experiences of growing up in traveling ministry families.

“I have done the youth entrepreneurship challenge for three years,” Zoey Bogner said. “Competing in YEC has given me so much confidence. I now feel confident going up and talking to people at events and in the community. I have so much passion, and I love what I do. I hope more youth get involved in (YEC) and it continues to grow and shape Barton County.”

The event highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit of local youth and the importance of supporting the next generation of business leaders.

Zoey Bogner will go on to represent the community at the Kansas State Youth Entrepreneur Challenge, where she will compete against top student entrepreneurs from across the state.

All boats rise in high tides: if it’s good for Barton
Community College, it’s good for Barton County and all the communities we live
in. That’s how Dr. Marcus Garstecki, BCC president, opened Thursday morning's
announcement from Sen. Jerry Moran at the college’s KanEquip Learning Center. Moran
was in Great Bend to announce a $425,000 allocation to the school’s CDL and ag-tech
program.

“Congress has a piece of legislation that we just passed –
passed by the house, passed by the senate, signed by the president – there’s
designated spending for Barton Community College for workforce training within
the CDL program and the ag-tech program, for purposes of buying equipment,”
Moran said.

In 2024, Barton opened the KanEquip Learning Center, which
houses programs like agriculture business management, crop protection, commercial
driver’s license, and the Top Tech ag mechanics programs. Garstecki called Tuesday’s
announcement a game-changer for the school.

“These are large pieces of equipment that we would have a challenge
being able to fund on our own,” he said. “For example, we’re going to have a
new semi in our CDL program. Without these funds to help us, that’s something
that would be on the wish list for a long time. Our students are going to get
trained on the best equipment, state of the art, and that’s what truly prepares
them for what they’re going to see in the workforce.”

Garstecki said a critical piece of the mission at Barton
Community College is to prepare students for high-paying jobs and careers. Mike
Johnson, chairman of the Barton Board of Trustees, explained how junior
colleges play a role.

“The Kansas community college system currently provides over
70 percent of all technical training in the state of Kansas,” Johnson said. “This
federal funding we received was instrumental in allowing Barton to purchase
some of the critical equipment needed for this facility we are standing in
today, and helps us continue our mission to provide quality education to our
students, and to provide local employees for our employers.”

Moran said the money allocated to Barton is not additional tax
dollars being spent, but rather money that was already going somewhere. He has
made a push to give tax dollars to law enforcement and workforce-related
causes.

“Every time we have the opportunity to help a community
college or technical college have the resources necessary to train workers for
business that are already looking for students with those capabilities, we’re
looking for opportunities to designate those funds,” said Moran.

Garstecki said students in those programs will benefit from
using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, but Thursday’s announcement
will also benefit instructors.

“At the end of the day, we have some of the best instructors
around,” Garstecki said. “You will not find a better group who teach in this
building and around our campus day in and day out. But we also know when we
equip them with the best tools, it only enhances the educational experience and
training they are able to give to our students. That’s critical to the job we
do.”

Six couples will be honored on March 13 as the 2026 class of Kansas Master Farm Families in recognition of their leadership in agriculture, environmental stewardship and service to their communities.

The statewide awards program is in its 99th year and is sponsored by K-State Extension and Kansas Farmer Magazine.

This year’s honorees are: ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dean and Marlene Davis, Maple Hill. ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; David and Sheila Govert, Cunningham. ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Garry and Kathy Holloway, Kincaid. ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Caleb and Shanda Mattix, Colby. ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Keith and Connie Miller, Great Bend. ·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Roger and Elizabeth Ploeger, Morrill.

The annual awards banquet will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 13 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan.

From &nbsp;Barton County, Keith and Connie Miller were nominated and will be honored at the banquet. Perpetuating the family farm homesteaded in 1920 northeast of Great Bend, the Millers have steadily grown their diversified operation over the last 49 years.

Coming out of high school, Keith put in one year at Barton County Community College before returning to the farm for good. Starting in 1976, he and Connie partnered with Keith’s parents, Carl and Evelyn, raising beef cows, hogs and 500 acres of crops on the farmstead just south of the Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Refuge.

Keith and Connie fully took over the operation in 1990, which has now expanded to several thousand acres of wheat, corn, alfalfa, soybeans and grain sorghum. They also run a 200-head beef cattle herd. Their three daughters, Amber, Brooke and Dara, were all active on the farm growing up. Currently, Dara and her husband Jason are directly involved in the operation. As the business manager for the operation, Connie is in the process of handing those duties fully over to Dara.

Keith and Connie have been fully committed to leadership and service at the local, state and even national levels. Keith is a past chair of the U.S. Meat Export Federation, and a past chair of the American Farm Bureau Federation’s international trade committee. He has also served on the Kansas Farm Bureau’s Board of Directors for 17 years, and is the current chair of the Kanas Soybean Commission.

Connie was a long-time 4-H community leader and church youth leader, among other local leadership positions. Keith and Connie fully credit their family support system for their extensive accomplishments.

BOOR: Keith and Connie Miller to be recognized as Kansas Master Farm Family

A Larned native is using her personal and professional backgrounds in her new position at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital (PVCH), which she describes as a facility that combines “small-town heart with big-city healthcare.”

Allisa Spain is the new director of marketing and the PVCH Foundation.

“I have always had a passion for public relations, marketing and graphic design,” Spain said. “Whether sharing an update, promoting a service, celebrating our staff or asking the community to invest in a cause, the focus is on clear communication, consistency and respect for the people we serve.

“This mindset aligns closely with the hospital’s mission. It is my privilege to tell the story of PVCH, while strengthening relationships, and supporting its future through communication and strong Foundation leadership.”

Spain emphasized that residents of Pawnee and surrounding counties “should be proud of this wonderful facility. All of us, myself included, have a stake in the hospital’s success. It is a big part of the reason I want to raise my children here.”

Prior to taking on this new position, Spain led the communication and engagement efforts in Larned USD 495.

“That position helped me build on relationships I have fostered over a lifetime,” she commented. “It allows me to feel comfortable working independently by moving quickly when needed and thinking strategically when it comes to long-term goals.

“These experiences support the missions of the hospital and Foundation,” Spain said. “We understand the importance of donor relations, fundraising events, grant writing and communication with boards of directors and trustees. I take this responsibility seriously because I genuinely care about the people in this great central Kansas community.”

After graduating from Larned High School in 2013, Spain earned her cosmetology license in 2014 at Bellus Academy in Manhattan. In 2017, she returned to Larned where she owned and operated Platinum Studio until 2022.

“Now that I am in this PVCH position, my background in business operations, staff management, marketing and hands-on leadership allows me to support our community in a new way,” Spain summarized. “Deep ties to the Larned area and a strong desire to support an organization that cares for local families will guide me as we share the PVCH message.”

Spain and Ty Racette have two children – Cash, 7, and Baylor, 3. Her parents are Lisa and Steve Spain of Larned.

Melanie Urban, PVCH administrator, said “Allisa’s deep roots in this community and her genuine commitment to the people we serve make her an incredible addition to our team. We are grateful to have someone who not only believes in the mission of PVCH but lives it every day through her compassion, creativity and love for this community.”

Make a Difference Contest 

The No. 23 Barton Community College baseball team opened Jayhawk Conference play Thursday afternoon at Jimmy Lawson-Danny Biggs Field, dropping a doubleheader to Seward County Community College 5-3 and 9-3.

Seward County capitalized in the middle innings of both contests to secure the doubleheader sweep. The Saints used timely hitting and took advantage of Barton miscues in the opener for a 5-3 victory before again creating separation in the nightcap with multi-run innings in the middle frames, while the Cougars left nine runners stranded in the 9-3 defeat.

The pair of setbacks snap Barton's five game winning streak as the Cougars fall to 14-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Saints improve to 8-13 on the season and 2-0 in league play. The two teams will close out the four-game set Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. twinbill at Brent Gould Field in Liberal.

Barton produced 16 hits across the doubleheader but was unable to capitalize consistently, leaving 17 runners stranded.&nbsp;Kyle Walker&nbsp;extended his team-best hitting streak to 12 games with hits in both contests finishing 3-for-9 with a double.&nbsp;Micah McGavran&nbsp;provided the Cougars' biggest swings of the afternoon, going 3-for-7 with a pair of home runs and two RBIs, while&nbsp;Rhett Winchester&nbsp;added two hits including a solo home run and&nbsp;Kyler Horsman&nbsp;also connected for a home run.

Game 1 RecapSeward County used a pair of multi-run innings to take control in the opener, defeating Barton 5-3. McGavran evened the contest at 1-1 in the second inning with a solo home run, his fifth of the season at the time, but the Saints answered with the decisive back-to-back-run innings in the middle frames. Jhett Huffman delivered a two-run blast in the fourth before Seward County capitalized on a pair of Cougar errors in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-1.

Barton delivered a pair of late comeback bids, trimming the deficit behind&nbsp;Kyle Graves' RBI single in the fifth and Horsman's solo home run in the seventh, his sixth of the year, but could get no closer with the tying run kept from coming to the plate over the final two batters.

The Cougar bats were limited to six hits in the opener, highlighted by three extra-base knocks as Walker added a double alongside the solo home runs from McGavran and Horsman. On the mound,&nbsp;Antonio Mendez&nbsp;(0-1) worked five innings in the start, allowing five runs, three-earned, on seven hits while striking out seven before&nbsp;Trey Mackwood&nbsp;closed out the final two frames in relief.

Game 2 RecapMuch like the opener, the middle innings proved decisive as the Saints broke open a 1-1 contest with six runs across the fourth and fifth innings on the way in a 9-3 nightcap victory.

The Cougars grabbed their lone lead of the afternoon in the second inning as&nbsp;Bruin Sampson's RBI single scored McGavran following his leadoff single, before Seward County answered with back-to-back three-run frames in the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by Jorge Beitia Tunon's three-run home run in the fourth to provide the needed separation.

The Cougars produced 10 hits in the contest, highlighted by solo home runs from McGavran in the eighth and Winchester's ninth inning blast, his third of the season.

McGavran, Walker and Winchester each recorded two-hit performances to key the Cougar offense.

Starter&nbsp;Braden Hauschel&nbsp;(1-2) worked the opening 4.2-innings, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out four.&nbsp;Landon Ritchey&nbsp;handled 3.1 innings in relief, surrendering three runs on six hits with one walk and one strikeout, while&nbsp;Aidan Medina&nbsp;worked a scoreless ninth yielding one hit and striking out two.

No. 23 Barton drops conference opening doubleheader to Seward County

The Barton Community College softball team opened conference play Thursday afternoon in Goodland with a dominant sweep of Fort Hays Tech Northwest, earning a pair of five-inning run-rule victories by scores of 14-1 and 15-3.

Barton wasted little time setting the tone, scoring in eight of its ten offensive innings on the day. The Cougars raced out to an 8-0 advantage through the first three frames of the opener before sealing the victory with a six-run fifth inning. More of the same followed in the nightcap as Barton plated three runs in each of the first four innings, highlighted by a six-run second inning that broke the game open.

The Cougars improve to 10-8 overall while Fort Hays Tech Northwest drops to 1-9. Barton remains on the road Saturday traveling to Pratt Community College before returning home Wednesday to host Hutchinson Community College. First pitch for both doubleheaders is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Ten different Cougars recorded hits in the sweep, led by&nbsp;Morgan Thatcher&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kahli Fields&nbsp;with five hits apiece while combining for six extra-base hits. Thatcher paced the offensive effort with five RBI, highlighted by a leadoff home run in the opener for her first of the season before adding a pair of doubles and three RBI in the nightcap. Batting in the No. 2 slot, Fields opened the day going 3-for-4 with two RBI before finishing the twin bill batting .500 with another pair of runs driven in, including a second-inning double.

Hailey Horton&nbsp;added to the power display as her lone hit in the opener cleared the fence for the sophomore's second home run of the season.&nbsp;Ella Pomme&nbsp;also recorded a pair of collegiate firsts, delivering her first hit and RBI on a fourth inning shot to left field that took a sharp hop and rolled to the fence for a triple

In the circle,&nbsp;Charley Wheeler&nbsp;tossed a complete-game two-hitter in the opener, matching a career best with 10 strikeouts to improve to 5-3 on the season.&nbsp;Ellie Crawford&nbsp;made her second consecutive start in the nightcap, tying her season best with three strikeouts while scattering three hits across four innings.&nbsp;Trista Rogers&nbsp;worked the final frame in her collegiate debut, striking out two while retiring the Tigers in order.

Barton Softball opens conference play with sweep at Fort Hays Tech Northwest

Five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Maxx Crosby is heading to the Baltimore Ravens. Two people with knowledge of the trade confirmed it to The Associated Press on Friday night. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal can’t be announced until the NFL’s new year starts next week. The Las Vegas Raiders will receive two first-round picks from the Ravens, including the No. 14 overall pick in next month’s NFL draft. The 28-year-old Crosby had 10 sacks last season and has reached double digits four times in his seven seasons.

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum’s belated birthday present to himself was a return to the game that was abruptly taken away from him last season. His homecoming at TD Garden on Friday night, a 120-100 victory over the Dallas Mavericks marked his season debut almost 10 months after having surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. Tatum had 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting, 12 rebounds and seven assists in a rust-filled 27 minutes. He played in five- and six-minute spurts in his first game since suffering the injury in during Game 4 of Boston’s Eastern Conference semifinal loss to New York in May.

Defense wins championships. That’s why NFL teams are becoming more willing to part with valuable draft picks for elite defenders. Trading two first-rounders for a player has been rare with fewer than 20 such deals over the past 40 years. However, three of those have occurred in the past 6 1/2 months and each was for a superstar defensive player. Five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Maxx Crosby became the latest premier talent traded for two ones when the Baltimore Ravens acquired the 28-year-old star from the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday night, two people with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Friday night.

Michele Kang owns the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League, the London City Lionesses in England’s Women’s Super League and OL Lyonnes in the French Premier League. Multi-club owners are not unusual on the men’s side of the game. But on the women’s side, it’s more of a rarity, and it is certainly unusual to own three teams in three top-tier leagues. Kang’s influence on the women’s game extends beyond just team ownership. She’s upped the ante for big-name player signings by luring Swedish international Kosovare Asllani to London City before the team was promoted and helping to make sure U.S. star Trinity Rodman re-signed with the Spirit. TOKYO (AP) — Defending champion Japan hit four home runs – two by Chicago Cubs slugger Seiya Suzuki – to beat South Korea 8-6 and stay undefeated in Pool C of the World Baseball Classic. Shohei Ohtani and Masataka Yoshida also homered for Japan at the Tokyo Dome Japan and Australia are 2-0 in Pool C play and meet Sunday as the two favorites to advance to the quarterfinals. In Sunday’s other game, South Korea (1-1) faces Taiwan (1-2). Earlier, Stuart Fairchild’s second-inning grand slam powered Taiwan to a 14-0 victory over the winless Czech Republic.

President Donald Trump has predicted the destruction not just of college sports but the entire U.S. collegiate system unless the industry is fixed quickly. Sports leaders who joined Trump Friday at a White House summit agreed that fix could only happen by raising more money to pay players. Trump suggested he would write an “all-encompassing” executive order within a week in hopes it would spark action from Congress. He also said he expected the order to trigger a lawsuit. Many schools are drowning in red ink from paying players for their name, image and likeness while the rules for those payments keep evolving.

One of the biggest takeaways from the NHL trade deadline is that the chase for the Stanley Cup is wide open. The Colorado Avalanche did nothing to spoil their spot as the betting favorite after filling their need at center with trades for Nazem Kadri and Nicolas Roy. But plenty of other contenders made trades to take a run at hockey's hallowed trophy, including the Central Division rival Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild. The Eastern Conference-favorite Tampa Bay Lightning made a relatively minor addition but one that could help take them back to the final.

VAL DI FASSA, Italy (AP) — Lindsey Vonn finally lost her lead in the World Cup downhill standings when Laura Pirovano won by 0.01 seconds on back-to-back days at Val di Fassa. Vonn was the standout downhill racer through January. But her season-ending crash at the Olympics last month left her too few World Cup points in hand with four races left. Pirovano is now the surprise standings leader because of a career-defining weekend on home snow in the Italian Dolomites. Pirovano got her second career win by edging inside Cornelia Huetter’s time. The 2022 Olympics downhill champion Corinne Suter was third just 0.05 back.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in a criminal case that arose immediately after he was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with his executive assistant. The deal was struck Friday, on the same day that a judge planned to hear a challenge to Moore’s arrest in December on three charges, including felony home invasion. Those charges were dropped in exchange for Moore pleading no contest to trespassing and malicious use of a telecom device.

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Miami of Ohio has finished the regular season as the only unbeaten team in Division I men’s basketball. The RedHawks beat Ohio 110-108 in overtime Friday night to run their record to 31-0. For Miami, Peter Suder scored five of his 13 points in overtime. Eian Elmer led the way with a career-high 32 points along with 12 rebounds. Trey Perry added 21 points and Brant Byers scored 15 for the RedHawks. Jackson Paveletzke led Ohio with a career-high 37 points, but he missed two shots in the final 5 seconds that could have given the Bobcats the lead.

Saturday Sports Headlines and Scores presented by Barton Community College

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Freshman Jordan Speiser scored 18 of her career-high 21 points in the second half and Tess Heal made a go-ahead free throw with 1.3 seconds left as Kansas State rallied to beat No. 4 seed Oklahoma State 74-73 on Friday in the Big 12 Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

A day after scoring the final 21 points in a 58-51 victory over No. 21 Texas Tech, Kansas State went on a 9-0 fourth-quarter run against the Cowgirls to take its first lead, 66-65, since it was 17-14.

Speiser got a friendly bounce on a 3-pointer with 15.5 seconds left to extend Kansas State’s lead to 73-68. Oklahoma State made two free throws to get within three points and the Cowgirls forced a jump ball to regain possession.

Haleigh Timmer made her second 3-pointer in the final minute with 4.5 seconds left to tie it at 73-all. Kansas State quickly inbounded the ball and Heal was fouled near midcourt before making the first free throw and intentionally missing the second.

Kansas State (18-16) became the first No. 12 seed to advance to the semifinals of the women's Big 12 Tournament.

Nastja Claessens finished with 15 points, Aniya Foy added 11 and Taryn Sides had 10 for Kansas State. Gina Garcia added nine assists to go with five points and Heal scored three points.

Stailee Heard led Oklahoma State (23-9) with 18 points. Jadyn Wooten added 16 points, Timmer finished with 13 and Amari Whiting had 12.

Region 6 Women's Basketball Tournament Pairings

The Barton Community College basketball teams will open postseason play on their home floor as both programs host opening matchups in the upcoming Region 6/Plains District Tournament.

The Lady Cougars (14-16) earned the tournament's No. 7 seed and will host 10th-seeded Cloud County Community College (14-15) in a first-round contest 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Fleske Fieldhouse. The winner advances to Tuesday's quarterfinal round, traveling to face No. 2 seed and ninth-ranked Dodge City Community College (25-4).

The No. 17 ranked Cougar men (22-8) secured the tournament's top overall seed and will enjoy home-court advantage throughout their playoff run. Barton will host a quarterfinal matchup Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the first-round game between No. 8 seed Cloud County Community College (17-13) and No. 9 seed Garden City Community College (17-13).

Quarterfinal winners in both the men's and women's brackets advance to Great Bend, where Barton will host the semifinal and championship rounds beginning Friday, March 13, inside Fleske Fieldhouse.

Barton season ticket holders and parking passes will be honored through the quarterfinal round. Ticket prices are $12 per day for reserved seating, $7 per game for general admission, and $4 for K-12 students, with Pre-K admitted free. Live streaming will also be available at $8 per contest.

Once the tournament reaches the semifinal round, all ticketing and live streaming will be conducted through the KJCCC.
