Each year, the Barton County Commission passes a resolution transferring and carrying over the previous year's unexpended funds. That time was Tuesday morning for 2023 funds. County Administrator Matt Patzner approached the commission about moving monies to the capital improvement and equipment replacement funds.

"It is the county's practice to transfer unexpended funds from one year to the next," he said. "After discussions with the commissioners, and in light of uncertainty with the economy, the proposed transfers will better position the county for the future."

A total of $746,555 was transferred from capital improvement, with $450,000 going to the general fund building and fixed equipment line. Another $171,555 was transferred to the federal funds exchange line, and the remaining $125,000 was moved to the road and bridge capital improvement line. Equipment replacement funds of $125,000 were moved to the road and bridge equipment replacement line. As of Dec. 31, 2023, that brought the total in capital improvement to $3,910,586, and the total in equipment replacement to $4,174,065.
