Serving as the Great Bend Community Coordinator, Christina Hayes is in charge of entertaining local residents. Serving as the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau Director, Hayes is also in charge of providing entertainment or reasons for out-of-town citizens to visit.

Constantly looking for conferences and tournaments to bring people to Great Bend, Hayes is pleased that the Kansas Collegiate Athletics Conference (KCAC) baseball and softball championships will be back in town this May for the 11th year.

"I give credit to the Great Bend Recreation Commission giving such great customer service and making sure it's all taken care of," said Hayes. "We help too as the city, but our piece is minimal. The Rec does a fantastic job."

Also in May, Great Bend will host the Class 2-1A State Baseball Championships. That tournament and the Class 1A – Division II State Basketball Championships held at Barton Community College earlier this month bring people in town to shop and eat.

"From the state basketball tournament, not only did I book two teams with Hatchet Axtion to throw axes and do fun things, but I had calls like crazy that weekend wanting fun things to do," said Hayes.

Great Bend also received notice they will host the American Legion State Baseball Tournament in July at the Sports Complex.
