Outside of a few joking comments on improving the parking situation, the Barton Community College Foundation has a near-perfect layout for a sporting clay shoot at Camp Aldrich. Located just northeast of the college, the campsite was the site for the 14th annual fundraiser for the Foundation this past Sunday.

After questionable weather the day before and day after, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Lindsey Bogner thanked the volunteers for their help.

"I do want to give a shoutout to our course judges, which is the Barton tennis team," said Bogner. "They actually practiced in 40-degree weather at my house the day before and then were out all day Sunday. The shooters love getting to talk to the students."

There were 229 participants in this year’s clay shoot, a fundraiser that provides mini-grants to Barton faculty to enhance student learning in their classrooms.

Bogner said participants came from all over the region with the farthest away coming from Texas.

"People come from all over the region," said Bogner. "This was neat because we had a student from Goodland that met his dad from Kansas City. They met for the clay shoot and went home. That was a pretty cool story."

For the first time, a woman was the top overall scorer for the clay shoot. Emily Miller, a member of the shotgun sports team at Fort Hays State University, connected on 98 of the 100 targets.
